Say it again for the people in the back!

I’ve realized how emotionally distant I am…

If you’ve met me or hung out with me, most likely you still don’t know me. To an extent, that’s by my own purposeful doing. I know you can’t hurt me, but I have experienced enough rejection that I have created the perfect remedy to not have to worry about that. As fool-proof as this seemed, it is extremely unfulfilling. Loving individuals like myself was ideal until I realized that there is more to “intimacy”.

Intimacy is not only touch or closeness in proximity, but disclosure and sharing, comfort and transparency. I’ve distanced myself so far from my own darkness that I didn’t even realize that it was something that could not be locked away. It wasn’t until I could appreciate my own light that I knew I had to embrace the coldness in my character. This does not mean that I will become more obvious or open like a grocery store, but I can now approach my relationships with the awareness of my own vulnerabilities and can honestly discern who will experience the fullness of my personality.

"Stop criticizing yourself. Take a moment to look yourself in the face, at least 3x a day, and say, “I love you.”"
